The second addition to my “Tried and True” Review series is a product I use on 95% of the jobs I do. I decided to take photos of the cans I currently have in my kit as a testament to how much love they get on set. Their pumps are long gone, the wording is rubbed off and they only have a maximum of 10 more applications left in them, but they are my secret weapons and I’d be lost without Red Carpet Kolour. RCK is a body makeup that when applied, gives your skin the most beautiful, healthy glow. It was created by an incredible celebrity makeup artist by the name of Joanna Schlip. I saw Joanna promoting the product a few years ago at The Makeup Show LA. She had countless magazine covers and red carpet photos hanging up at her both as photo evidence that this product was as amazing as she was saying, and I was instantly sold.

Red Carpet Kolour comes in three colors: light, medium and tan. The light version has no color and is meant for those with who want glow without adding any color. I currently carry medium and dark in my kit and so far, it has worked on all skin-tones. Even on extremely pale girls, I have found that the medium doesn’t give too much color but just aids in evening out the skin (similar to a tinted moisturizer), and also adds a hint of subtle, bronzed glow. On lighter to medium skin-tones, the tan version will add a nice amount of color to your skin making you about 1-3 shades darker. For deeper skin-tones, the tan works beautifully to add sheen to your skin; and on very deep skin-tones, I sometimes mix the RCK with a little lotion to dilute the color and make it work without turning anyone’s skin ashy.

Joanna Schlip works mainly in print and celebrity markets so she’s very aware of how this product translates on camera, and this is exactly why I love it so much. Sometimes in direct sunlight, it looks a little glittery to the human eye, but on camera it makes you look like you’ve just spent the day sitting in a full body moisture mask. It evens you out and gives your skin an unbelievable luminosity. I’ve been using this for years and I still get excited when I see that glow on the monitor.

There are a few popular products on the market that are similar to Red Carpet Kolour, but with the work I do, I haven’t found anything that compares. RCK gives you the perfect amount of sheen, so you can use it on anything from commercial/lifestyle jobs to red carpet. It’s not too shimmery and you won’t look like you’ve been oiled down; it just makes your skin look like the best version of itself. It’s like photoshop in a can and trust me, the photographers you work with will thank you for it!

RCK dries fast so when you apply it, make sure to work quickly to rub it in. Once it sets, I’ve never had a problem with it transferring onto clothing.
